2019 Amazon Plus-Size Swimsuit Haul + Straight Size Options

April 19, 2019 by Lindsay Ingalls Leave a Comment

Amazon has become one of the leading online retailers of just about everything. You can find me buying everything from books to food to clothes to… let’s be real basically everything. But what about swimsuits? Do those super low price swimsuits really hold up? Do they look like the photo? And how do they actually fit?

After spending far too many hours screening reviews of swimsuits I chose four to order. A retro inspired swimsuit, a popular off the shoulder style, a swim dress and a high waisted bikini. You can find an in depth review of these swimsuits in my ‘plus size swimsuit’ highlight.

Each of these swimsuits were $30 or less and I received them within 2-5 days of ordering. What I love about this is that they are inexpensive and I don’t actually have to leave my house to go shopping; I’m a mom of three small children there is no time for clothes shopping.

This ruffle one piece came highly recommended by a number of readers and it rates high via Amazon reviews. The material and quality of the swimsuit was good and was exactly how reviews represented it. This swimsuit would be great paired with a pair of cutoff shorts or a skirt to go from the beach to lunch. My only concern is that the ruffle top while cute might cause a bit of a wardrobe malfunction in the pool; I just imagine it would end up getting pushed up and look like a giant ruffle ring around you. Also if you have a long torso you may find it to be a bit short for you and I would suggest trying the high waisted two piece option instead. Overall I think this swimsuit is a win and it comes in a variety of colors and prints to fit your personal style. Rating: 7/10

Retro swimsuits are always a favorite of mine because they never go out of style and they generally always flatter any figure. With this retro suit I loved the ruching and the neckline. My only issue was once again I ran into the problem of it being too short for my long torso. I ended up going up a size in hopes that it would provide me with some length but it was still too short and too big in the boobs for me. Once again if you also struggle with having a long torso this looks like a great two piece option. Overall rating: 7/10

I saved my favorite swimsuit for last (and completely ignored the swim dress because it was not worth sharing). This high waisted two piece was by far the best fitting, most comfortable and functional of all the swimsuits I tried. It is fun and playful, a little sexy but also provides a good amount of coverage. I went up a size in it based on reviews but ended up finding it to be a bit big for me so I would say stick to your normal size. Quality, fit, color and price give this swimsuit an overall rating of 9/10.

While inexpensive, hassle free shopping is great you honestly get what you pay for. These swimsuits had a few flaws when it came to fit, the sizing is a little hard to determine but overall I was happy with my purchases (except the swim dress that was a disaster.)

What I Packed For 9 Days of Travel + What I Came To Learn About My Extreme Minimalist Wardrobe

June 29, 2018 by Lindsay Ingalls Leave a Comment

We recently traveled to Seattle and Bellingham for a total of 9 days. When it came to packing I packed up (almost) ALL of my clothes except one dress, a black cropped jumpsuit, my clogs and a few workout clothes items.

This was the first time in the last year that I have worn ‘real’ clothes every day and by day four it was evident that I just don’t have enough clothes. I ended up doing two loads of laundry for my family while at our Airbnb just so that I would have enough clothes to last the entire trip plus I ended up having to purchase one t-shirt so that I would have enough tops to make it through the final day. Now if you don’t have kids one laundry load probably would be enough but the thing is having kids means drops of ice cream, snotty noses and dirty hands are all over my clothes in a matter of minutes.

While I am working towards living a more intentional life, filled with less things my minimalist wardrobe is not one of choice as much as a result of my postpartum weight and struggle to lose the weight, the struggle to define my style, the struggle to find sizes that fit and flatter my body and the struggle to find quality clothes that fit in my tiny wardrobe budget. These are the items I brought with me (aka my entire wardrobe):

  • Black Gap Nursing Dress
  • Black Shorts Romper (didn’t wear)
  • 1 Pair Ankle Jeans
  • 1 Pair Distressed Step-hem Ankle Jeans
  • Grey Tee
  • 2 Black Tee
  • Army Green Tee
  • Black & White Striped Tee
  • Black Blouse Tank
  • Tan Slides
  • Denim Jacket (didn’t wear)
  • 2 Pairs of Cropped Workout Leggings
  • 2 Workout Tees
  • Native Flip Flops
  • Nike Runners

In total I own (shoes + daywear – excludes activewear): 16 items

I’d really like to have more of a capsule wardrobe which generally consists of 30-40 pieces but at this point even that seems like an incredibly expensive and daunting task.

The thing is having 4 of the same t-shirt in different colors (yes they are all exactly the same) to pair with two pairs of pants is boring and slightly depressing. It’s becoming even clearer to me that the way in which I dress and present myself to the world impacts my confidence, my productivity and my overall mood. I am not looking to be some fashionista who sets trends or even someone who completely follows them but rather I want to feel like each day I got dressed with intention and not just to cover my body up.

So share with me how does what you wear impact your day to day life? If you are a plus size women where do you shop?

Weekend Links & Three Things I’m Doing For My Health

November 3, 2017 by Lindsay Ingalls Leave a Comment

It’s finally the weekend and I am planning on catching up on  some sleep and enjoying the only date night that Neil and I have all month. This week while good has been exhausting and I can’t wait to relax. Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Three Things For My Health

  1. I am doing barre3 for 10 minutes per day. Also I am attending a free class next week to push me out of my comfort zone (aka home) and to meet some new moms/women!
  2. I am challenging myself to start my day with a Splendid Spoon Smoothie next week. I am focusing on keeping my breakfast protein rich, full of healthy fats and low in sugar. I’ll be sharing more Monday. My hubby is doing a Splendid Spoon cleanse next week – would you like to have him share his experience in a guest post [not sponsored he purchased his own cleanse]?
  3. I am taking my vitamins/supplements everyday and committing to turning to my essential oils to boost my immune system, combat feelings of stress and boost my mood. Why essential oils? Because they work. They enhance my quality of life and I notice a distinct difference when I use them myself and with my family.

Weekend Links

  • You should make this lasagna this weekend because it is amazing!
  • If you need something new to binge watch this weekend I recommend – Manhunt.
  • Ready to green up your home? Marley’s Monsters just released their holiday line. I love the facial rounds and will be stocking up on napkins and un-paper towels soon.
  • This sweatshirt is my absolute favorite because it’s super soft, easy to nurse in while not being a nursing top and comes in regular women’s sizing and plus size. I may have just ordered two more. I have been wearing it a lot with these jeans which are super soft, the perfect rise for a mom who bends over all the time and they are fun to dress up or down.
  • I have been hiding the bags under my eyes with this RMS Un-Cover Up and it works like a dream. Would you like to see an update makeup and/or skincare routine?
  • Needing a great red lip? I highly recommend this one from ILIA.

Share a link to something you are loving or lusting after right now; or something great your have read, watched or ate!
