Review: French Meadow Bakery

September 23, 2009 by Lindsay Ingalls Leave a Comment

French Meadow Bakery was kind enough to send me some products to sample and I am now in love with their products. I received the Hemp Tortillas, Our Daily Bread, and Hemp Bagels. Although all the products were good, my favorite was the bagels. They were just the right size and tasted great with tofu cream cheese. These little bagels were hearty and filling. The bread was great as well, just pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds and then toast until lightly browned. They make great toast for breakfasts or sandwiches, especially Tofurky. Lastly, you can’t go wrong with some sauteed veggies, black beans and salsa stuffed into one to French Meadow’s Hemp Tortillas. At this point you should be jumping off your couch and running to the store and checking the freezer section for these products. If you don’t see them then head straight to customer service and request that they carry them!

Review: Yogavive Yogachips

September 23, 2009 by Lindsay Ingalls Leave a Comment

Yogavive has created one of the best snacks- healthy, sweet, and satisfying.  Yogavive’s Yogachips are everything a great snack can be and are delicious.  My hubby and I tired the original, cinnamon, peach, and caramel.  They were all delicious, unfortunately I didn’t get to try the caramel or original but my husband assures me that they were good.  With only 35 calories a bag you don’t have to feel guilty when satisfying your sweet tooth.  They also would be a great snack for kids, they have fun appealing packaging and what kid doesn’t love apples and chips – and mom’s can be happy they are filling up on apple chips instead of the potato sort. So give these yummy treats a try.

Dr. Kracker Review

I am a cracker lover and have been forever and I usually go for something thin and crispy but I finally tried Dr. Krackers crackers and flatbreads and they are hearty, crispy and yummy. They go really great with your favorite hummus.  The flatbreads are great with Tofutti and Tofurky with a slice of tomato.

These crackers are much more filing than your normal crackers such as wheat thins, saltines or ritz. My favorite of these crackers is the Seedlander which has tons of pumpkin seeds- a great source of zinc. I love how Dr. Krackers crackers and flatbreads are hearty with lots of seeds that make them filling.  At your next cocktail party place these on a plate near some hummus, tofuspread and/or vegan cheese and enjoy!

Rustic Crust Pizza Review

August 24, 2009 by Lindsay Ingalls 5 Comments

A few weeks ago my husband and I were lucky enough to come home to a big box sitting on our porch.  The box was filled with Rustic Crust Pizza and sauces, 6 different kinds of crusts and all of them vegan.  We were delighted to get to test them all out since we are pizza lovers.

The first pizza we made was a vegan chicken parm pizza on the sourdough and it was delicious! The crust is great and easy and fresh- all you have to do is brush with olive oil, top it and place in a 450F oven for 10 minutes and dinner is served!

Our second pizza that we made was a caramelized onion with tomatoes and mushrooms and it was by far one of the best pizza’s.  We used the Thin Crust which is definitely my favorite; it get’s nice and crispy and is just a great crust.

Another pizza we made (my favorite) was  the Mexican pizza on Pizza Originale Crust.  We topped it with refried black beans, sautéed onions and mushrooms and fresh salsa.  This was great and the crust was nice and crispy and was overall the best pizza that we made.

The three other crusts we had my parents and my aunt and her family test out as we had our fill of pizza for a while (as much as I love pizza 3 in one week was enough).  They loved the crusts and the pizza sauces.

Overall these are great crusts and are fresh and yummy.  Any time you need a quick go to dinner grab one of these crusts, there are tons of different flavors and even personal sized ones!

Review: Zevia

August 10, 2009 by Lindsay Ingalls Leave a Comment

ZEVIAI was lucky enough to get a sample of Zevia’s 6 flavors the other day and my husband and I quickly tried them all.  The flavors included: root beer, ginger, lemon lime, black cherry, orange and cola.  I loved the root beer it was so good, better than most root beers that I have had.  What I also liked about it was that you couldn’t even tell it was made with stevia.  I find that stevia can have a very strong taste at times but in this it was very mild which I enjoyed.  My husband had the cola because I can’t have caffine and as an former colaholic he really loved it and likes it better then most any other cola that is stevia free.  Now I didn’t love the black cherry or orange flavors but I’ve never been a fan of either flavor in regular pop so others might enjoy it- I know my dad likes the orange.

Lemon lime is my favourite and is so refreshing I just love it.  If I could drink gin right now it would go very nice with it. Lastly the Ginger- this was nice a refreshing, not to over powering but had a good real ginger flavour unlike those other ginger flavoured pops.

Overall I love Zevia and think it’s a great alternative to diet pop.

Review: Justin's Nut Butter

August 5, 2009 by Lindsay Ingalls 6 Comments

picture-1

I received a jar of Justin’s Maple Almond Butter along with a few small packages of various flavours of almond butter and peanut butter. I immediately cracked the jar open and had a big scoop with an apple.  This almond butter is one of the best I have ever had.  You’d think with the maple it might be too sweet like I find the PB&Co. Mighty Maple Peanut Butter but it was a perfect balance of sweet and nutty. I have now had it on apples, toast and a big scoop on a spoon and it sure is good I’m looking forward to trying the other flavour samples that I received – but I am saving them for our cruise so I have a little stash of yummy nut butter to have instead of the sweet sugary preservative filled peanut butter I imagine will be on the cruise.
